Remembering The Hickson's block of Blake on JJ's birthday

Written by Brendan Bowers on .

JJ Hickson is 24-years old today. In light of it being his birthday, we wanted to take a brief look back at arguably his best play as a member of the Cavaliers. He turned in some big performances during an up-and-down season under Byron Scott, before being dealt for Omri Casspi, but this game might have been his best.

It was moments like this that left Cavs fans wanting more from the young power forward from NC State.

After being bought out by the Sacramento Kings this past season, JJ finished the year strong in Portland as a member of the Traiblazers. Strong enough to re-sign in Rip City for a one-year deal.

This season will be big for JJ. He needs to do what he once did against Blake Griffin to as many people as possible, as many times as he can. He still has that same upside these days, The Hickson's just not getting any younger.

He tries hard, but the dogged, nearly desperate,  determination that defined Jordan, Jerry West, Bird, Magic, has never been there in JJ.

Either you have that trait, or you don't.

Coaches can help a little, but only a little.

Hickson right now is like a box of chocolates: you never know what you will get.  One season he looks like a future all star then the following year he looks as if he does not belong in the NBA.  It's hard to be confident about him.
